Jawhar SircarFormer Cultural Secretary of India and Chairman, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata and Ex-CEO of Prasar Bharati - Sri Jawhar Sircar apoke at the 245th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Raja Rammohun Roy on "Hindu Patriarchy in Rammohun's Time : Durga & Other Issues". Sri Sircar explained the cause for increase in Sati and oppression of women in Bengal between 1707 and 1775. This was a time of transition from the old order of Mughal India to the rise of a landed class due to the new zamindari system, as started by Mirzafar and given legal stamp by East India Company in 1772.

David Wilson & John StevensTo celebrate the 242nd Birth Anniversary of Raja Rammohun Roy - the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj library is arranging a first of a kind programme in the history of the Samaj on 24th May 2014. Dr. David Wilson FSA, the noted art historian from London joined live with thee audience over the internet and educated us on the plaster bust of Rammohun at the library and the bust of Rammohun made by George Clarke. Dr. Prof Goutam Neogi will speak about the history of the library while Prof. Arun Ghosh will speak on Library development. The library newsletter will also be inaugurated in the programme.
 
Mayor unveils bust The noted illustrator Sri Ramanando Bandopadhyay inaugurated a book by Upendrakishore Roychowdhury - "Baharatiya Sangeet" - collection of his essays on Indian music at the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj on 12th May 2013. The book has been edited by Debjit Bandopadhyay and published by Sutradhar. The book launch was to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of this versatile Brahmo. The book launch had a galaxy of speakers - Sri Anup Motilal - Director, Rabindra Teertha, spoke on Upendrakishore while the Sr. librarian of Aajkal publications - Sri Debasis Mukhopadhyay spoke on Upendrakishore's pioneering work on printing. Brahmosangeet was sung by Sayan Bandopadhyay.

UpendrakishoreThe 150th birth centenary of Upendrakishore Roychowdhury was celebrated on12th May 2012, at the Shivnath Memorial Hall of the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj library. Eloquent tributes were paid by the speakers - Sri Debasish Sen, noted children's writer and close associate of Sandesh and Sri Debasis Mukhopadhyay, Sr. Librarian of Aajkal Publications. The children of Mahila Bahavan also put up a performance.

Mayor unveils bustThe general body elections of Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, one of the oldest democratic institutions in India, were thrown into a tizzy on 08-Jan-2009 after two of the contestants found the lock of the ballot box open. Members went to the Samaj office to cast thier votes and found the ballot box open.

Mayor unveils bustThe newly refurbished mausoleum of Raja Rammohun Roy was unvelied by the Indian High Commissioner Mr. Sib Sankar Mukherjee on 28th January 2008. The programme was also graced by the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Chris David. A piece of history was restored when the tomb of Raja Rammohun Roy was resurrected here on the occasion of his 175th death anniversary. More than 150 people attended the ceremony - which was pan - religious in keeping with Rammohun Roy's liberal beliefs.

The court ruled that though the State Government could fix minimum educational qualification for a teacher, it cannot restrict society’s right to choose fromthose who possess the eligibility criteria.

Mayor unveils bustA 16-year campaign to save a neglected cemetery in Bristol has finally been won. On 7th August 2003, Bristol City Council has at long last taken possession of the 45-acre Arnos Vale Cemetery from the Bristol General Cemetery Company, which was run by businessman Tony Towner.
